Verity Deaville recently visited the new Concorde Conference Centre near Manchester Airport. Opened in March 2009 and situated at the Manchester Airport Aviation Viewing Park there is no doubt that this is a fabulous venue for anyone looking for a wow factor. The centre which is basically a hanger hosts the famous Concorde G-BOAC affectionately known as ‘Alpha Charlie’ and it’s the elegance of the plane that makes this venue a perfect backdrop for an event.
With a hefty room hire charge (but it is the Alpha Charlie) and with an entry fee to Concorde on top, this venue is for organisations looking to impress and in my opinion would suit larger events such as gala dinners, awards, fashion shows, product launches and staff/sales conferences. The venue offers over 1600 square metres of flexible space and the maximum attendance is 500 delegates however depending on staging, dance floor, bar area etc I would suggest between 300 – 400 guests. There is also room for a marquee outside.
Disadvantages include that the bar next door is operated by a different supplier and has to be open to the public in the day but it can be hired separately in the evening thus adding to the price. Also access onto Concorde is restricted to 100 people per hour with a guide so you can’t just walk on or off during your event.
The team were very professional, gave a warm welcome and have a preferred supplier list for catering, bar and audio to ensure events run smoothly. With a multitude of hotels within a few minutes drive away the venue would certainly suit companies looking for an international or national conference venue. Noise from the planes outside didn’t seem a problem and the back drop of the planes landing outside only added to the feel but I would recommend using the recommended audio supplier to reduce any noise impact.
Overall a top but expensive venue.
